Likewise, subspecialists in the Clinical Pathology areas should also maintain their Clinical Pathology board certification so should be listed under Clinical Pathology as well. This means that any subspecialist, such as neuropathologist, like myself, is also boarded in Anatomic Pathology and should be counted under Anatomic Pathology numbers. I cannot imagine that our databases are so erroneous in their estimates. One comment I would make is that I do not know of any pathologist in subspecialties who is not also board certified in either Anatomic Pathology or Clinical Pathology. This obviously has a great impact on planning and justification for additional training positions etc. It is quite disappointing that so many publications to date may be misleading us to into thinking that the pathologists workforce is shrinking.
